Canada Serviceberry
Amelanchier canadensis.
Canadian Serviceberry is a small tree also known as a shrub. You will find Canada Serviceberry shrubs in marshy wet areas. Serviceberry, with its oval shaped green leaves, blooms in the spring with white flowers and edible red berries which attract birds . In the Fall the shrub changes colour to a brilliant orange/red.
Canada Serviceberry is great for attracting pollinators, especially the striped hairstreak butterflies which carry out their larval stage on the leaves. Photo credit: Rebecca Krawczyk.
