HOBBLEBUSH - New!
Hobblebush is a shrub which grows 2–4 meters (6–12 ft) high with pendulous branches that take root where they touch the ground. This rooted branch habit allows the Hobblebush to tolerate an extensive amount of Moose and Deer browsing.
The shrub forms large clusters of white to pink flowers in May–June and are some of our first spring flowers here in Haliburton, Muskoka and the Kawartha Lakes.
The flowers provide nectar for the Spring Azure butterfly. Mammals and birds feed on its fruit, twigs, and leaves. It grows in rich, moist acidic woods, stream banks, and swamps. Photo credit: Rebecca Krawczyk.
